October 2015: Visual Page Builder & Starter Theme

Gen Herres will talk about a very useful tool for your WordPress toolkit – a visual page builder. These builders allow people without knowledge of coding to create detailed and complex layouts quickly and easily. They allow you to easily rearrange your layouts, swap out text and images, and even save templates for reuse. While these tools can be intimidating at first, we’ll show you the ropes and build some sample layouts. I’ll also demo my favorite starter theme to use with my favorite page builder.

Gen is a graphic designer & WordPress developer who has built over 100 WordPress websites in the last 4 years. She owns the company Anphira which specializes in planning, design, development and maintenance of WordPress websites for small businesses and SEO/Marketing agencies. Gen’s background prior to web work was as a Software Engineer at Boeing on the B-1 Bomber graphics display upgrade, and prior to that was a grad student and lecturer at the Ohio State University.

As always, everyone is welcome to bring their WordPress questions or problems for discussion with the group. We’ve had some great discussions and learned some cool tricks!

Coalwork is located at 544 Spruce Street in Scranton – across from the courthouse. More information about Coalwork is available at coalwork.com.

To cover Coalwork’s costs for hosting us, we will be asking for donations. If you are able to give – GREAT – but please don’t let it deter you from attending if you feel unable to do so.

And don’t forget – we’ll be live streaming via a Google Hangout (see below). If you plan to watch the stream live and participate in the chatroom, mention that in your RSVP.
